Welcome to CYP !

The CYP family is one of the largest ancient enzyme protein families and has been identified in plants, animals, fungi, bacteria, and even viruses. CYP proteins were first found in rat liver microsomes, named P450 because of the absorption peak at 450?nm after the reductive P450 was combined with carbon monoxide. It is also known as monooxygenase because it can insert an oxygen atom into hydrophobic molecules to make them more active or hydrophilic. With continuous research, it was found that CYPs are not pigments but are enzymes that catalyze reactions in many pathways. CYP family members play an important role in many metabolic pathways because they can produce secondary metabolites, including flavonoids, anthocyanins, isoflavones and terpenoids.
